If you encounter the following issue:

Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /study/auth/login.html on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Apache/2.2.11 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.11 OpenSSL/0.9.8i DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 mod_bwlimited/1.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 Server at emarketerlibrary.com Port 80

Contact Hostgator's support to open a support ticket, you also try their live help from their main site.
Give them the URL to the error and tell them it is about the Delavo mod_security issue on their server.

They're much aware of the problem by now and should fix it in no time.

Andre

You are a genius!

Thank you for this posting - sets everything back to normal and all's right with the world once more! I'm in communication with the hostgator people and they seem to know what they are doing now.

Thank you and all the best

Hello again,

Not so good news this time -

Spoke with the hostgator people and they tell me, at least in my case anyway ...

"its not modsec, the file simply does not exist, its a standard 404."

So once again I am left thinking I put a hex on these things - and looking for my next steps.

My first thought is to unzip the zip file that I pulled into the public_html folder - was that meant to be unzipped first? Didnt see the instruction to do so.

Rather than dive in I thought I'd excercise caution and hold back to come and ask you guys first - bulls and china shops dont get on!

Your prompt response would be very much appreciated.

All the best

Further info - went back to chek they had not whitelisted it as per a suggestion in the use-sell.com site

the hostgator technician has just spent a lot of time cleaning up the files etc - she unzipped the zip file - all went well but still a 404 from the http://gvrcv.com/delavo-install.cgi page.

Her question is - "why are there no supporting files for http://site.com/delavo-install.cgi ?"

Any thoughts gratefully received - it will be good to get through this though I am confused and concerned that it should have been so complicated.

All the best

The zip file is NOT meant to be manually unzipped.

The information you provide here, with the steps taken by
you and the "tech supp rep" at hostgator seem like a bit
confused.

1st you said all was fine, and then suddenly the file was not found.
Which file are you talking about?

Did you install the script or not?
What error message are you getting and at what point exactly?

Maybe you should talk with the helpdesk about this.

Andre,

Where I am at having followed the instructions word for word is the point at which I input http://site.com/delavo-install.cgi into my browser as requested and click - the idea being it will then open up into a form where I can start inserting my profile etc.

However, instead I am getting ERROR 404 - PAGE NOT FOUND

So, 7-10 days down the line from starting on this 30-40 minute job, I am still nowhere near completion. To say this has held me up is a major understatement.

Any thoughts or suggestions welcome

Best wishes

Sam

PS I will take this up with the http://support.constructzero.com/ helpdesk as well

Sam TurboHelpdesk won't help you much in that case.

The problem is clearly on your host side and it seems like
there's a misconfiguration on something as your own domain,
no file, if gvrcv.com is your domain, it shows up as a 404 in itself! ??

Is this a "add on" domain? Check this out as there might be a
glitch in the path pointing to your /public_html/

I wonder how the "tech supp rep" at HG can't figure that out, trying
to fix this by unzipping the installation package!! :o

This is funny :).

I had this problem before with Fantasos on Host Gator and it was
a mode_security issue that they fixed in 5 minutes.

The url to the error is

http://yourdomainname.com/delavo-folder/

not the url :

/delavo-folder/auth/login.html

If they are looking for the 'file' /delavo-folder/auth/login.html

they cannot find it, off course, because login.html does not exist
on that location, it's an alias (I believe it's called so).

All they have to do is to enable mode_security for your domain
(or addon domain) and it's done, they don't need to look for any fantasos files.

I also have to contact them now again for same issue with Delavo
on my new addon domain. I'm curious what they will say this time :)

Hi

I've download Delavo version2 and installed as per instructions... I go to www.mysite.com/folder/delavo.cgi and get the folllowing;
======================
The requested URL /folder/jin.cgi/delavo.cgi was not found on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
======================

Is this a Hostgator problem as I had to contact them when I installed version1 on another domain...

Many thanks

Delavo must be installed from the root web directory.

mysite.com/delavo.cgi

-Then you'll tell the installation script to install it in your /folder/

be installed in a cgi-bin folder (www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin)?

That is a very good question!

Quite frankly I personally don't know as I've never tried this, and I would not as it would be useless as nowadays good hosts configuration run Perl scripts outside of the cgi-bin.

Technically speaking it should work, but I believe DELAVO has been conceived to run outside and you might encounter problems eventually, especially as some part of it runs on php.
