View Full Version : Can not access after install - browser says I am in a loop

Hi,
I installed Delavo on DreamHost and had the same Suexec issue that some folks seem to have on hostgator. After the helpdesk fixed this issue (very fast :)) the install went ok and I was shown my url and login data.
But when I go to the delavo folder the script was installed in I can't access. Firefox tells me that it determined that "the server relais the request for this address in a way that will never end" (translated from Dutch).
Any clues anybody?
Thanks,
Theo

Hi Theo,
I managed a successfult installation on my Dreamhost account and did not have any suexec issues, I would suggest that whatever Dreamhost did was not correct (sounds to me like they used an .htaccess fix).

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your reply. What strikes me though, looking at the /delavo folder that there is no index.html of .php file. Is that correct?

Hi Theo,
Yes that is correct - I cannot really discuss what happens in a public forum about the way it is handled except to say that involves .htaccess redirects.
Maybe a reinstallation would solve the problem - failing that - I would suggest raising a support ticket with the help desk.

Hi,
I asked Dreamhost support and they came up with the culprit. I had set my site up to allways switch to www. The htaccess file on the other hand has a line that says: # SITE SPECIFIC; cut www. due to security problem in IE.
Dreamhost support suggested that I either set my site to "remove www if someone goes to http://www.domain.com or cut the rewrite rule from the htaccess file.
I tried both but neither worked. After I set my site to "remove www" there still is a loop. And after I cut the code I got an error message telling me to contact the provider.
I am now in a Q and A session with Support. Maybe I'll try a new install later on and if nothing works I'll try Delavo support.

A final note in this thread. I had to wait a while for the setup of the domain to propagate. Then the installation went smooth with the domain setting to cut the www.

on DreamHost and run fine.
The problem I am having with DreamHost is that some of John's scripts won't run there. Have never gotten to the bottom of it because of the finger pointing back and forth.
Also, DreamHost won't let me host others sites so if I want to offer DELAVO to my affiliates I can't do it and still host there.
