I've spent hours scouring the forums and haven't come up anything that helps so far. Deleted and re-uploaded all 3 files making sure to use binary, reset all permissions to 755 and seem still getting the 500 error. The cgi error logs produce this:

BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /home/users/web/b456/sl.scottrm/public_html/delavo-install.cgi line 5.
Can't locate Archive/Zip.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.8/i686-linux /usr/local/lib/perl5/5.8.8 /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8/i686-linux /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8 /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.4 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /home/users/web/b456/sl.scottrm/public_html/delavo-install.cgi line 5.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /home/users/web/b456/sl.scottrm/public_html/delavo-install.cgi line 5.

the HelpDesk people at my shared hosting company went to the trouble of running a test cgi script in each of the multiple folders I'd tried doing he install on, including the /public_html/ which is where I'm currently trying it from.
Does anyone have any further info ?? Help, please

Scott,

Who are your hosting company?

Issues are documented here in the forum on 500 errors (especially hostgator).

Running their test.cgi script is not going to help.

I checked through all the posts related to Internal Server Error before posting, and didn't find any that offered any information that I had already ruled out as far as I can tell. I've been working on this problem since Friday, played the "hunt through the thousands of emails to try to track down which login had to go where, and also find that my original information was wrong anyway due to Forum changes and variouse things over the past few weeks.
I'm seeing in the error log from the last failed re-do attempt, that the delavo-install.cgi is failing at line 5 , but since I'm not skilled at programming, I'm unable to figure out what line 5 is looking for, so I can make it be where it needs to be, LOL.

Thanks in advance for any insight anyone might be able to lend

Line 5 in the delavo-install.cgi file is looking for Archive/Zip.pm perl module which apparently, even though the versions of perl may have the proper numbers, certain hosts only have Archive/tar.pm installed. The only way to determine is info is by logging into the control panel after you've gotten hosting, and find a listing of the installed perl modules, unless you have prior knowledge exactly what perl modules you would need to inquire about before you go with a particular hosting company.

That being said, my Delavo installation as a zipped install is not going to work on my hosting company. Is there a way to get directions to unzip on my PC, then upload from there, or is the Delavo functionallity dependent on that Archive/zip.pm module ???

I'd like to use Delavo, and currently don't have the funding to hunt around for hosting to put it on.

Help , Please!

Hi Scott,

Have you asked your hosting company to install the missing module?

Yes Brian,

Once I managed to figure out how to read their upside-down error logs, I got support into chat and asked them to add it, activate or whatever . Their response was that they were unable to add that module, but couldn't seem to come up with any clear reason why they couldn't install it, just that they couldn't. I've had this hosting company since Dec. 08 and spent money I shouldn't have, to get an online presence to make some $$, LOL. Unfortunately, so much of my time is spent fighting their issues and trying to make programs and sites work - such as Delavo, my income is non-existent so I don't have the option to just grab another hosting company and start all over again. That's why I asked if anyone might know if it's possible to unzip and upload and whether there any instructions for doing that method. I'm also searching the forums for existing info on that while I'm replying to you, BTW, thanks for your help so far, it's much appreciated!

Hi Scott,

Given the circumstances, the last suggestion I can make is to approach the turbohelpdesk to ask the technical question on how to install (if possible) without that module.

If nothing else, at least I'm learning more than I ever wanted to know about cgi and perl, LOL.
With any luck, maybe my posts will help someone else save some time and effort.

Much thanks, again!

You cannot install Delavo if that module is missing. Delavo requires that
module in order to work.

You will need to find a new hosting service if you want Delavo to work.

Hi!

For Your Information:

I had a similar issue with with The Rackspace Cloud in their Cloud Sites shared environment.

I asked support (in part): "Are you able to add this PERL module or not? If not, why not?"

Reply (in part): "...not installed on our servers... If you really need to run this module we recommend that you spin up a cloud server and run your site on there... We will not be able to run this module on our cloud sites product due to incompatibility..."

Regards,

Stephen :-)
