View Full Version : Regarding Affiliate commissions

In delavo we can set package/product commissions in two places:
1) within the product settings (under store>products)
2) within the actual affiliate program that this product/package is assigned to (under affiliates>groups).
If I set different commission percentage in mentioned above spots, which one will Delavo go by during the purchase? which one will win over another?

Max

Hi Max,
To be honest, I always set both and set them at a standard commission percentage regardless.
Unless you have a specific need to set them differently I would suggest not bending you head ;-)

The highest commission takes precedence.
BTW You should NOT set the same affiliate commission at both places for
a particular affiliate program..
You should only set the Affiliate commissions in the Affilaite Group for SCAP.
Here is why:
Say you set the affilaite commission for your ALL affiliate program at 50%
in the affiliate interface. That means you will ALWAYS have to give 50%
commissions for your ALL affiliate program. So if you have a Product
that you only want to give 40% commissions, you have to set up a new
affiliate program. If you only set the commissions at the Product level,
you can use your ALL affiliate program regardless of the commission you
set for a particular product.

Hi Max, Donna,
Precisely - some of us prefer to have seperate affiliate programs and include the affiliate in them and then duplicate the product/package at the different commission rate.
I personally use this method.

Hi Brian
I am curious as to why you do that.
Seems like a lot of extra work.

Hi Donna,
Yes it is extra work for me and there are a few decisions I made some time ago that meant at the time justified the way in which I operate.
1. I decided some three years ago that I needed a standard affiliate program "ALL" at a standard commission 50% so that both I and my affiliates would have something written in stone.
2. As clickbank was also involved in my decisions and as you know has only one commission rate per account (at least that was the case three years ago and I believe is still that way today).
3. It helps me keep a better pulse on my affiliates that are set at a higher rate (I do have the affiliate series plugin - but I prefer to deal on a one to one basis with my higher percentage affiliates.
4. I do not offer anything at less than 50% commissions, I would rather not offer a program on a product or service if the 50-50 split is not worthwhile.
5. I like to keep things simple for me and for my affiliates (when they see in their affiliate control panel which groups they are in and how many, I find that encourages them if there is a list of 3 or 4 affiliate groups).
Just a few reasons.

Hi Brian
I see.
But you could still acheive that without setting the commission in both the
Affilaite Group and Product interfaces.
BTW It is recommended that you do not set the same commission in both
areas.

Max,
Follow Donna's recommendations (she sees problem tickets - I don't).
What may work for me is not always guaranteed to work for everyone (perhaps different server configuration or reliability).
Following the official recommendations is always the way to go and if you need to do anything different - test it to destruction.

Thank you, guys for recommendations.
I guess I'll stick with affiliate groups approach for now on.
Didnt' mean to start off such a hot discussion :)
