View Full Version : .htaccess - Cannot create a remote membership

Delavo is not letting me create a remote membership.

1) Via cpanel, I protected a folder for the membership I want to create (http://fictitious-example.com/members)

2) I entered all the correct info into the delavo "memberships" section. Here's what it looks like:

http://readyrep.com/delavo_help.gif

As you can see, I'm getting the error message:
"* Remote Membership: failed to download .htpasswd (ERROR: Can't open .htpasswd: No such file or directory ) "

I need to resolve this URGENTLY. And help would be appreciated.

NOTE: On my server, the folder is named .htpasswds not .htpasswd as the error message is indicating. I went as far as manually creating a .htpasswd folder and copied the contents of the .htpasswds folder, but this doesn't work.

NOTE2: I have PRODUCT folders that are protected and work fine in delavo. It just is not working with the memberships creation.

Hi,

Have you created the members folder first on the server?

Hi Brian,

Yes, see #1

Hi Brian,

Yes, see #1

Then I would suggest it is one of two things.

Write permissions on the protected folder try 777 not forgetting to set them back again or you have the wrong path set in the remote membership box - with some servers you don't always have to specify /public_html for instance.

P.S. this is not a bug I have Delavo setup with a remote membership.

Brian,

I've discovered the problem.

The Membership creation window (as shown in the image above) says:
"Attention: You need to create the protected directory on your server FIRST and then setup this remote membership."

So naturally, I created the members folder, then went into cpanel and added protection to the members folder! After all, that's what that line is telling me to do "You need to create the protected directory". But that's not the case... I should have JUST created the folder. Then Delavo uses it's own protection routine.

May I suggest this verbage is changed in order help someone else from falling into that same trap that ate up hours of time unnecessarily!? It should say to simply create a folder, and Delavo will create protection for it.

What a day.

Thanks.

Did you watch the video or read the manual before setting up the membership?

Because nowhere in either does it tell you to protect the folder in cpanel.

If you are not sure how to do something or have any questions about a procedure,
the official documentation will have the answers.

Donna,

Yes, I have spent the last two days straight poring
over ALL the PDF's, and videos, three times over.

>> Because nowhere in either does it tell you to protect the folder in cpanel.

Do you not see that the actual input area does say to
create a protected folder FIRST before continuing with
filling in the membership details?

"Attention: You need to create the protected directory on your server FIRST and then setup this remote membership."

I'm only suggesting to change the verbage on that so others
don't fall into the same downward spiral (while helping
you avoid future support issues related to this). If you
don't see that as necessary, that's perfectly fine. Really!
My intention is to help you avoid future problems.

Sorry that the suggestion wasn't useful.

Gene
